bio/about

Ileana Moro ( 1991 ) Cuban, Costa Rican artist . Lives and work in Antwerp, Belgium

These forms serve a reflection of thoughts and emotions, devoid of any intention to recreate elements from the tangible world, every creation I try to bring to life is a silent exploration of my inner landscape.

As both a human and self taught- artist, I’m captivated by the mysteries of existence. My work is a personal journey that function as a diary, into uncovering the hidden energies that shape my inner world and exploring how we’re all connected—beyond just the physical self.

For me, darkness and shadow play important roles in my art. I see shadows as both companions and teachers, revealing truths I might otherwise overlook. They challenge me to grow and embrace the complexities of life, which, in itself, feels like an art form. I try to translate this forms to evoke feelings.

On the other hand, my technique brings a sense of freedom and fluidity to my work. It allows me to step into the unknown, where anything feels uncomfortable possible. My subconscious often takes the lead in these moments, shaping pieces that reflect a delicate balance between pain and beauty. There’s a spontaneous calmness I find in this process—like the way music fills the quiet hours I spend alone in my studio.

To me, life is a mix of lessons and fleeting desires. Grief and chaos are just as important as joy—they shape us, teach us, and push us to grow. My art reflects this constant ebb and flow. While some themes might speak to certain people more than others, every piece is part of my ongoing exploration of what it means to exist.

“But I have a new love for that glittering instrument, the human soul. It is a lovely and unique thing in the universe. It is always attacked and never destroyed. “

John Steinbeck
